Three Light Island Pendant from the Malden collection in Polished Nickel finish. Like many civilized things, the history of the pleat goes back to Ancient Egypt. Pleats were a serious luxury, requiring extensive manual labor, and were only worn by royalty. This association with royalty continued into Europe through the Renaissance.
